Ratings Vs. Reality

I am on a quest to bring truth and logic into the realm of millennials. Mostly, I will be covering current events, and although I despise politics, they seem to be the most eventful conversation lately. I will try my best to only focus on the important matters, and ways that millennials can make a difference.

So for starters, let’s get this issue right out of the way. A person’s choice in political parties does not define that individual. Not all republicans are racists, and not all democrats are “snowflakes”. Contrary to what the Mainstream Media (MSM) would have you believe, this country is not as divided as it seems.

Now that I’m on the subject, the MSM has become a public enemy. I’m not saying that all news is “fake news” but there’s a sickening amount of deceptive journalism these days. At a time where information is readily available at our fingertips, many choose to believe what they hear as opposed to checking facts and knowing the truth.

I cannot stress this enough! The MSM is desperately seeking ratings, at all costs. They have been secretly staging scenes to give you, the viewer, a false image that stirs up true emotions. They have been fabricating stories with no sources to back them up, and they have trying to divide our country.

For ratings.

It’s not as though this is something new, but it has become far more prominent lately. Nowadays, almost everybody has a camera in their pocket, capturing reporters at their worst. Social media has given people the power to report news, and even live stream coverage. The only problem is, people aren’t utilizing that power. At least, not in a good way.

Many are so quick to re-tweet and share news, without even checking how true it may be. Once a false message gets the initial reaction as its spread across the web, the damage is done. Articles can be retracted, details can be cleared up, and corrections can be made, but very few even see it at that point and even fewer will share the correction.

If you find a story that grabs your attention, it is important to understand where it is coming from. We need to put a stop to this gossip style journalism in the MSM, and it's very easy to check sources and facts before spreading their lies. The MSM isn’t your friend, they don’t feel bad lying to cameras. But you should feel differently about misinforming friends by spreading tweets and shares.

There are many websites that will help you check facts, sources, and political bias of any news article. There are also tons of social media sites that are focused on truth. I will provide links on the Home page for those of you interested in taking a stand against fake news. Also, I will list some great independant video bloggers that provide only facts, and help clear up the murky details.

I myself like to read articles from both left and right wing sources, and then draw my own conclusion based on the facts. It is because of this that I have lost most trust in politicians in general, and I trust nothing I see on T.V., at least not from any MSM news channel.

I am reminded of a teacher who once told us “you should only believe half of what they show you on the news, and believe none of what they tell you”. I used to think that was absurd, but with Google’s ability to give me all the information I desire, I’m realizing how true his statement is. That teacher had a lot of strange sayings like that. They never made sense to me at the time, but they have all aged well and true.
