Racism Vs. Reality

When I was growing up, racism wasn’t a major topic of discussion. The only members of the KKK I ever saw were in movies and on Jerry Springer. They were characters.

Nowadays they are suspiciously plastered alongside Nazi’s in the Mainstream Media (MSM) and seemingly portrayed as every Trump supporter. This is the MSM’s ace in the hole, they will play the racism card at any moment for extra ratings.

Before going further, I would like to clear up the arguments I hear most from the left and the right. From the left I always hear claims that all conservatives are either racists, or support racist groups in some way.

The rebuttal from the right is that you can’t associate all conservatives with a small group of extremists (which is true), and that the KKK was formed by “THE Democrats”.

The latter is a hypocritical statement, by associating all democrats with a small group of extremists. So, the KKK was formed by a (small) group of democrats, and now the right wing contains that small group. You know what I think? Who cares!?

Why are we even giving extremists so much publicity? They used to be characters, jokes even, and now they are being treated like a popular movement. The MSM is boosting the confidence of these groups by claiming they hold such massive numbers, and driving fear into American citizens.

The recent tragedy in Texas painted a different picture, however. There were boats with white men rescuing families, they did not discriminate. There were black men protecting communities from looters, and bringing supplies no matter what your skin color was.

Immigrants were helping everybody, whether you were born here or not. All that I saw were great people of this country coming together in a time of need. I saw the America that I grew up to love and be proud of.

So whenever the MSM goes hysterical about racism, ask yourself, “really?”.

If the President condemns both extremist sides of a violent protest, does that REALLY make him a Nazi sympathizer? Should he just ignore the violent AntiFa group and only condemn the group expressing their right to free speech (as disgusting as their speech may be)?

Should we throw common sense out the window while we’re at it?

Social media plays a huge role in racism today as well. There are thousands of internet trolls that love to stir the pot, no matter what’s cooking. There are fake stories being shared, fake emotions arise, and the racism scare intensifies.

There will always be discrimination and racism on some level. It’s important that we don’t magnify and focus on that small portion of our population. Yes, we must call out discrimination if we see it, but we should not fabricate racism just to create an illusion of indecency.

Our country is very diverse, and that’s what makes us a beautiful nation. We all have different opinions, we see things differently across the country, we are individually great people.

The important thing I want you to take away from all of this is that we must learn to listen to each other, on a personal level. Share your opinion, express your feelings, but also be open to hear what others have to say.

Be willing to accept that maybe, just maybe, you could be wrong because your perspective is from a different level.

We must all treat each other with the amount of respect we would like to receive. We are all in this together, let’s help each other and make a real difference.
